Extensions and Re-ordering if Barn Conversion, near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire

This project took a 1970s barn conversion and re-ordered it to suit a client looking for close to PassivHaus standards within an existing structure. The building was also extended to add additional bedroom space and a large multi-purpose room.

The design was updated to very high standards internally with integrated audio systems, state of the art lighting and climate management.

Sustainable Design Features:

The building is heated using a woodchip boiler sited at one end of the site with an internal hopper, linked to underfloor heating and first floor radiations in the highly insulated interior, with Austrian super triple glazed windows and doors. The internal environment is controlled then by an air management system maximising the heat gains from the sun in the highly glazed areas and re-circulating the heat throughout the building.

The walls of the existing barns were highly insulated and sealed with Vapour check membranes to make the building air-tight to minimise the heat losses as much as possible given the construction

Externally the client created garages and a tennis court on site and planted over 1000 native trees within the grounds.
