Barn Conversion, Charlbury, Oxfordshire

Overview

This project revolved around converting an ancillary barn to a Grade II listed house in Charlbury, Oxfordshire to provide additional residential accommodation and space for a large office and library area and an artist’s studio.

The property had once been a farm along with some other properties in the area and latterly an Inn prior and the barn was historically used for storing barrels and possibly brewing so had few windows in the form, so the conversion of the barn had to make use of the small openings available to provide enough usable space as well as link access to some of the first floor areas which had limited access from the main house area.

Working in a restricted site the interior was the most important, the building was insulated and lined internally to make the spaces usable.
