Family Farmhouse, Kingham, West Oxfordshire
Overview
The clients purchased this Farmhouse building which needed a complete refurbishment and re-ordering. The main house was limited in space and had an awkward arrangement of rooms on the first floor, to create a better set of larger rooms Spirit Architecture designed a new staircase and landing area to the rear of the building which freed up the bedrooms to create a larger suite of rooms and giving access to a new second floor staircase from the landing area.
An extension was also added to replace a lean-to Ground floor area to the side which added new bathrooms and a utility area to the building to increase the useable family ground floor areas by moving these service areas out of the main spaces.
In addition to the main house the barns and outbuildings were refurbished and converted into office and ancillary accommodation, the outbuildings on one side linked with a loggia porch area in and oak frame.
To reduce the energy use of the buildings the outbuildings to one side included in-roof line Photovoltaic panels which blended in to the slate roof to be less obvious in this village location.
